Welcome to Marine Avenue Medical Centre

Welcome to Marine Avenue Medical Centre.  Please browse the site and we hope that you find the information you are looking for. If there is anything you cannot find, please do not hesitate to contact the surgery.

I would like to…

  • We provide same day appointments for urgent medical problems. If you need help today, please call the surgery as early as possible from 8am on 0191 252 5317.

Please be aware that our admin team will ask you briefly about your problem as instructed by our clinical team. Please don't be offended by their questions as they are simply trying to find out how best to help you. They can then arrange for the on-call clinical team to contact you and organise a same day appointment if necessary.

If you're unsure whether your problem requires an urgent, same day appointment, you can use 111 online or nhs.uk to find out more.

    For medical emergencies dial 999.

  • We offer routine appointments with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physios and mental health workers.

To book a routine appointment, please call the surgery on 0191 252 5317. Alternatively, you can fill in an eConsult form including details of your problem and how you hope we can help.

Most routine appointments will be telephone-based in the first instance. The clinical team will then be able to arrange face-to-face appointments if appropriate.

Please be aware that our admin team will ask you briefly about your problem as instructed by our clinical team. Please don't be offended by their questions as they are simply trying to find out how best to help you.

Booking appointments with your usual doctor is best as they know you and your medical history. Please be aware that you may sometimes have to wait slightly longer to get an appointment with your usual doctor. You are, therefore, welcome to book appointments with anyone from our clinical team.

If you would like to see your usual doctor, please tell the admin staff when making your appointment or include it in your eConsult form.

  • If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let the surgery know as soon as possible so that we can use this appointment for someone else.

You can cancel your appointment by using the NHS or Patient Access app or by calling the surgery on 0191 252 5317.

  • If possible, we prefer patients to request prescriptions via the NHS or Patient Access app. This allows our admin staff to focus on urgent calls.

Alternatively, you can request prescriptions via email ma87008@nhs.net or by filling in a paper request at the surgery.

Prescriptions will be forwarded to your nominated pharmacy within 2 working days.

If you are requesting a prescription early due to holidays then please let us know when making the request. Without this information, you risk the request being rejected.

  • If you're off work sick for 7 days or less, your employer should not ask for medical evidence that you've been ill. You can find out when you might need a fit note here.

If you do require a fit note, please complete an eConsult form including details of why you're not fit for work and for how long your expect to be off. Our admin team will usually be able to deal with your query within 48 hours.

Alternatively, you can call the surgery on 0191 252 5317.

  • If you would like to chase up a referral, please complete an eConsult form including details of what you have been referred for. Our admin team will usually be able to deal with your query within 48 hours.

Alternatively, you can call the surgery on 0191 252 5317.
